Guest Speaker
Our Special Guest Speaker this year is Marilla North, author/editor of Yarn Spinners—A Story in Letters, about the life and times of author Dymphna Cusack. Dymphna was a teacher, political activist, actor, scriptwriter and commentator. She was born in 1902 in West Wyalong and died in Sydney in 1981. She was a talented and eccentric author with many links to the early days of the FAW. Marilla’s talk will give you an insight into the fascinating life of her central character, Dymphna Cusack, as well as Miles Franklin and Florence James. Marilla’s book Yarn Spinners lifts the lid on the seamy side of Sydney at the end of World War II, when American servicemen were over paid, over sexed and over here.
