with Mary Moody
Mary Moody’s background is journalism and feature writing, however she fell into a career as a gardening author/magazine editor and television presenter (ABC’s Gardening Australia) after moving to the mountains and becoming involved in the organic gardening movement in the 1970s.
Later, travelling in France as a botanical tour guide resulted in her writing a series of memoir-style stories that became best sellers in Australia and have been published internationally (Au Revoir, Last Tango in Toulouse, The Long Hot Summer and Sweet Surrender, for Pan Macmillan).
As a guest of the Byron Bay Writer’s Festival, Mary was asked to give a one-day workshop in creative memoir-writing. Titled Writing from the Heart, it was a great success and she went on to conduct the same workshop for the NSW Writers Centre and for various libraries and institutions around NSW.
This year Mary has been invited as a guest author at the international Ubud Readers and Writers Festival in Bali during October 2008. She is taking a small group of aspiring writers into the cool rural rice growing region of Sideman where she will hold a 7-day intensive creative memoir writing workshop and then travel down to Ubud for the four days of this exciting festival.
The trip is organised by World Expeditions (Mary has been leading tours for them for 26 years).
