The Stringybark Times Past Short Story Award 2024

Stringybark Stories is proud to announce its 43rd short story competition since 2010.  The Stringybark ‘Times Past’ Story Award 2024 is now accepting entries. This is their sixth historical fiction competition exploring Australian history. The requirements for this competition are that your entry must be:

  • 1500 words or fewer in length;
  • be based on a real event or events;
  • the event(s) must have occurred in Australia or had clear relevance to Australia; and
  • the story must be accompanied by a 150 word or fewer, explanation of the ‘real facts’ behind the story.

Stringybark Stories have an award pool of over $1070 in cash and books to encourage you in this endeavour, provided by their sponsors Stringybark Publishing.

All historical fiction awards have required these four conditions and if you want to see how others have responded read one of these marvellous historical anthologies: Marngrook, Yellow Pearl, Stew and Sinkers, Longing for Solitude, Fault Lines or Golah Sing. All are rollicking good reads. 

Competition Closes: 11:59 pm AEST 29 September 2024
Length: ≤1500 words + 150 word (max) ‘facts’ statement.
Award value: Over $1070 in cash and books.

Entry fees: $15 for one story, $28 for two stories, $39 for three stories (max).
