Country Newspapers Short Story Competition

The Fellowship of Australian Writers NSW has partnered with Country Press by assisting them to conduct a Short Story competition through our member, Greg McFarland (Isolated Writer) as their Representative. There are 49 Country Newspapers involved which are listed below.

The Newspapers will publicise the event and distribute the Entry Forms. 

Entries to be posted to a PO Box listed in the newspapers. Entry is FREE but postage is up to the entrant.

Country Press will collect and manage entries for the four categories.

Entries will be sent to FAW for judging from mid-April to 4-July, 2025 resulting in a 10 week window for submissions.

There will be a short-list for each category, from which 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes will be awarded. The FAW are supplying judges for:

  • Adult Open
  • Secondary School
  • Primary School
  • Newspaper staff/contributor.
