Conditions of Entry: Seniors Card Short Story Competition 2026

Opening date for entries: Thursday 2nd April 2026
Entries close: 6pm Thursday 14th May 2026

Terms and Conditions

  1. The writing competition is open to all Seniors Card and Senior Savers Card holders in New South Wales.
  2. Senior Card number is COMPULSORY on the entry form (no replacement number).
  3. Entry is free.
  4. The theme for 2026 is Neighbours, Strangers and the People In Between.
  5. Title MUST be unique. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE THEME AS THE TITLE.
  6. Story length maximum 1,000 words.
  7. Opening date is 9.00am 2nd April 2026. Closing date is 6pm 14th May 2026 and no entries will be accepted after that date.
  8. The top 100 entries will be published in the Seniors Card Anthology to be released by the Department of Communities and Justice in October/November 2026.
  9. The judge’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  10. The online Entry Form will be available on this website from Thursday 2nd April 2026. Your story entry can be attached when submitting the form. 
  11. Assistance for a typewriter prepared or hand-written entries, please phone 0495 833 522 to discuss your entry submission.
  12. Entries must be in a word document, not a pdf or Jpg format. Entries sent in other formats other than word will not be accepted.
  13. Entries should be in 12pt font and double spaced and ‘Footer’ to include title and page number. Author’s name should only appear on the entry form.
  14. Multiple entries may be submitted, but only one story per writer will be selected.
  15. The use of AI in the creation of the work is prohibited.
