Following the Grand Tour

Anya Nielsen

In 2012 Anya Nielsen of Wyong Writers FAW spent a month in Italy, with visits to churches, museums and art galleries. She travelled through the north and South of Italy including Sicily. Everywhere she went she tasted the bounties of the region. Similarly, she spent three weeks in France even attended a cooking school. Her short time in Spain included Madrid and Barcelona.

Anya Nielsen’s new book, Following the Grand Tour to Italy, France and Spain is based on the 19th century rite of passage. It’s purpose was to discover archaeology, architecture, art, music and culture.

This travel memoir is full of her impressions, anecdotes and little-known gems about artists and architects. We ride on her shoulder experiencing Italy from top to bottom. Through Tuscan countryside, pausing in Florence to see David. In Venice a gondola ride is a must. Then to Harry’s Bar, Hemingway’s favourite haunt for a cool Bellini. We travel south to Sorrento, Pompeii and Mt Etna in Sicily.

Anya’s book launch is on 14th September 2024 at 9:30am at Erina Fair library. All invited.
