Join us for our annual get-together, enjoy a delicious lunch, hear our Guest Speaker and applaud this year’s winners of the prestigious FAW NSW writing competitions:
- The Marjorie Barnard Short Story Award
- Hilarie Lindsay Young Writers Short Story Competition for Australian School Children. Four prize categories cover students from Years 4–12.
Our Special Guest Speaker this year is Marilla North, author/editor of Yarn Spinners—A Story in Letters, about the life and times of author Dymphna Cusack. Dymphna was a teacher, political activist, actor, scriptwriter and commentator. She was born in 1902 in West Wyalong and died in Sydney in 1981. She was a talented and eccentric author with many links to the early days of the FAW. Marilla’s talk will give you an insight into the fascinating life of her central character, Dymphna Cusack, as well as Miles Franklin and Florence James. Marilla’s book Yarn Spinners lifts the lid on the seamy side of Sydney at the end of World War II, when American servicemen were over paid, over sexed and over here.
Tickets for the lunch are $45 each, plus you can pre-order Raffle Tickets at $1 each and send one cheque covering both. To obtain tickets, download the order form here (PDF 87K) and mail it with your payment to:
